English actress Sophie Turner, best known for her roles as Sansa Stark in "Game of Thrones" and Jean Grey in the "X-Men" franchise, has been officially confirmed as the new live action Lara Croft for Amazon MGM Studios' "Tomb Raider" television series.
Turner has reportedly been in talks for the role since November last year after testing for it.
In that time, a photo showing her physical transformation began to circulate, with many speculating that she was training for Lara Croft. She was officially confirmed on Wednesday (3rd September).

First announced three years ago with Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve, No Time to Die) at the helm, the project has encountered some hurdles. It had reportedly been through two writers rooms without a script being agreed upon and rumours began to spread that it had been cancelled.

It has now been confirmed that Waller-Bridge remains the writer and creator, while also serving as executive producer and co-showrunner.
Chad Hodge, who was reportedly brought into the second writers room as a consultant, serves as co-showrunner and executive producer.
Jonathan Van Tulleken (Shōgun, Dope Thief) also joined the team as director and executive producer.
Filming begins on 19th January 2026.

In other news, it was announced that the animated series "Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft", starring Hayley Atwell, will return to Netflix on 11th December 2025 with its second series.
